Cranes Review: Exceptional Lunch Experience We visited Cranes for lunch during Restaurant Week and opted for the bento - undoubtedly the best deal of the week. Unlike many restaurants that offer little in return to cash in on Restaurant Week, Cranes impressed us with its outstanding food, excellent service, and inviting atmosphere. The bento featured an array of delicious dishes. We particularly enjoyed the salmon crudo with its complementary sauce, the fried rice with Iberico ham and yuzu sauce, and the fried chicken. Additionally, the bento included udon noodles, miso tofu, and grilled shrimp, all of which were flavorful and beautifully presented. Our lunch at Cranes was a memorable experience and highly recommended!

Came here on a Tuesday night and it was relatively quiet. Love the open kitchen concept, so you can see everything going on behind the scenes. An excellent blending of Asian flavors and Spanish tapas/flavors. Favorite was the paella and the shrimp tempura. The paella was soft and fluffy and packed a punch of flavor. The churros were also a great surprise as there were so many of them and they were also delish- great crunchy texture, flavors of sauces, and not too sweet :)

My top 10 places to eat at in the DMV area by far. This is by far a must-eat place! It's a fusion of Spanish cuisine and Japanese cuisine. Must orders: - patatas bravas: crispy potato with an aioli sauce and yuzu ketchup. Gorgeous presentation. Perfect ratio of crunch to softness of the interior portion of the potato. - unagi paella: freshwater eel with smoked trout and edamame. Utter perfection. I loved how the bottom side of the platter is cooked to a crisp so we had to scrape off the paella. This is full of flavor with the smokiness of the trout pairing well with the edamame. My favorite bites were the eel and the crisped paella. Highly recommend and would come back just for this. - Churros - the caramel miso sauce on the side was my favorite. Each churro was thin enough to have a delicious crunch all the way around with the inside texture being quite fluffy. This was cooked to perfection. Debatable: - Bok Choy in curry sauce topped with rice puff for decor. I asked specifically for it to be very undercooked to maintain its crunch, and I adored the texture. I was hoping the curry would add a strong punch of flavor to the bok choy, but it was lacking. Pass on the: - mocktails: himawari and green almond. Nothing was special with either of them. The himawari just tasted like a lemon aid mix. - wagyu beef: gorgeous presentation and some of the softest mashed potatoes I've eaten but the cut of meat/flavor wasn't worth the price. Sam, our waiter, deserves a 5 star review! He answered all of our questions, asked for feedback on the food, and made sure my bok choy order was as I desired for crunchiness. He also recommended the churro dessert, which was an utterly excellent choice. Mannerism, knowledge, and kindness were all on par with this lovely dining experience. This place is great for a special occasion or more high end date experience.

Well waiting for an appointment a new acquaintance (a Yelp Elite) and I ventured to Cranes to check out their Happy Hour. The menu was not bad and happy hour here is Happy! The manager made it a point to strike up conversation and sell us on the signature drinks so I had to try! We also tried the two chicken happy hour items! I wasn't a fan of the ground chicken dish but the fried chicken was fantastic! I can't wait to bring my partner in crime, aka Taste Bud, aka my favorite human back to this place! Ambiance is sexy! Staff were super nice!

Chef Pepe Moncayo was reluctant to confirm he was the chef until we assured home we *loved* his food at Cranes. His interpretation of Spanish Kaiseki is so delicious that I chewed every bite slowly so I could savor each and every morsel. Lunch was very reasonable, especially the bento box. My cousin's seafood ramen made our eyes roll to the back of our heads. Even the cappuccino was on point. Our server, Nishan, saw us eyeing the cherry blossom dessert (soon to be discontinued next week) and convinced us to try it. It was shiso sponge, rhubarb foam, and lychee granite. No wonder they won Michelin awards in 2021 and 2022. I love the combination of a masterful intersection between two wonderful cuisines, quiet elegance and warm service.

What an interesting idea for a restaurant: Japanese and Spanish fusion. At Cranes, Spanish tapas (small plates) and Japanese kaiseki (a multi-course meal), go hand in hand. Gluten free foodies can find quite a few options to enjoy from their designated gluten free menu. It's only slightly different from the regular menu. We ordered the shishito peppers, the patatas bravas, the bok choy, salmon crudo, and the wagyu short rib aburi. Everything was delicious. The standouts were definitely the salmon crudo and the patatas bravas. The crudo features a rotating selection of fresh fish and on this night, it happened to be salmon - one of my faves. The patatas bravas were some of the fanciest and most inventive I've seen. The sauce was super flavorful! The prices are typical for DC and the wine list was solid enough. I wish I could've stayed for entrees but unfortunately, I didn't have enough time before my train back to Baltimore. I'd definitely return to check out more of Cranes' menu though!
